How The Conversation Around Eating Disorders Is Changing For Women Of Color

By Evelyn Mason and Maggie Piper, The Seattle Medium

All women and girls are susceptible to eating disorders and poor body image, but because of misleading medical terminology, popular-media images, and a lack of overall awareness and training, the issue and remedies are framed almost exclusively around white women.

But individuals and organizations are working to shift the discussion and unveil the true complexities of eating disorders, particularly in relation to minoritized communities.

Huskies secure series win over USC with eighth-inning comeback

Late-game comebacks are becoming a regular occurrence for the Washington baseball team.

After falling into an early 4-0 deficit to visiting USC in Game 2 of the series, which soon after deepened to five runs, UW never ceased to inch its way back. Particularly, the Huskies came up clutch in the eighth inning with a four-run burst, eventually coming out on top, 7-6.

Saturday’s victory came on the heels of a 10-inning slugfest that saw Washington emerge with a 14-12 success on Friday night. For t

UW baseball snatches series finale, breaks losing streak against Oregon State

The Washington baseball team was out for revenge on Sunday afternoon.

After coming up short in each leg of the previous day’s double header, UW ended a prolonged losing streak against Oregon State dating back to 2018, which until Sunday had accumulated to 13 games. A solid performance on both sides of the ball catapulted the Huskies to a 7-2 victory to avoid a sweep at the hands of the Beavers.

Head coach Jason Kelly recognized how back-and-forth the game of baseball can be, especially for a g

Washington celebrates seniors as it shuts down Oregon in final home game

Enormous cheers erupted throughout Alaska Airlines Arena as UW seniors Haley Van Dyke and Trinity Oliver enthusiastically high-fived each other.

The Huskies’ rock-solid defense had just forced an offensive foul to be committed by Oregon’s 6-foot-8 Phillipina Kyei.

A subsequent turnover by the opponent gave way to a burst down the court, with Oliver turning around and laying the ball up sweetly off of a Van Dyke assist. With about five minutes to go on the board, the Washington women’s basketba

Bucking a Trend: Humanities Programs Are Growing at U.W.

It’s no secret that there have been fewer pupils pursuing the humanities at colleges and universities across the country. The number of students seeking degrees in English, history, literature and other humanities disciplines has been taking a significant hit at most major institutions.

There has, however, been a contrary story at the University of Washington. At UW, students are increasingly choosing to pursue degrees in humanities disciplines. Officials in the humanities departments have note

Washington men’s basketball returns home with exciting win over Seattle U

On Monday night, cheers came from both sides of Alaska Airlines Arena.

A redeeming tournament win in Anaheim this past weekend carried over for the Washington men’s basketball team, who ousted its cross-city rival Seattle U in a decisive 77-66 win to begin a busy week.

“It’s been a rivalry and a game that’s great for the city,” head coach Mike Hopkins said. “It’s always been a tight game, and they always fight us really hard.”

Three takeaways from the Huskies’ dramatic win over the Beavers

As of now, no team has been successful in defeating the Washington football team at home.

One of the most largely-anticipated matchups of the latter half of the season swung in UW’s favor on Friday night, as it found itself facing down a very evenly-matched opponent in No. 24 Oregon State.

The Huskies (7-2, 4-2 Pac-12) have yet to be defeated on their turf, emerging victorious with a last-second field goal to clutch the 24-21 victory over the Beavers (6-3, 3-3 Pac-12.)

Instant: Washington football rebounds from two-game losing streak in 10-point win over Arizona

The Washington football team didn’t allow itself to completely do its head in after suffering two road losses, finding success on its first return home in two weeks.

Two transfer quarterbacks found themselves face-to-face on Montlake in UW junior Michael Penix Jr and Arizona sophomore Jayden de Laura. The Huskies (5-2, 2-2 Pac-12) relied on the passing game against their opponents and put up an impressive offensive performance that awarded them a 49-39 victory.

The start was rough for Arizona,

3-2-1 Football: The Daily’s primer on Michigan State

A Big Ten adversary is on the horizon for Washington in its third outing of the 2022 season. No. 11 Michigan State will arrive at Husky Stadium on Saturday, posing the team’s greatest challenge to date.

Though widely regarded as underdogs, a win would present a huge opportunity for new head coach Kalen DeBoer to demonstrate that he and his crew have what it takes to quickly turn things around from last year’s disastrous low. Here’s the Daily’s primer on Michigan State.

New women's basketball head coach Tina Langley looking to jump-start Huskies
